For me, the life-changing event happened when I enrolled in Niagara College a few months ago. Since that occurred, December has always been a special month for me because this is the month that makes me remember the event and remember how this event totally changed my life and made me look at my life from a totally different view. On December 10th I received my passport back with a visa stamp on it from Canadian embassy, soon after that I started visiting all my relatives and well wishers. My Mother started preparing my favorite seven cups sweet to take it along with me. Finally the day approached to leave to the dream country, my mother, father and myself went to the airport. I was so excited, nervous and scared too. My mother was so emotional, she hugged me and I started rolling out my tears on my face and same with my parents. During the flight journey a lot of questions were flowing in my mind. I could not even have my lunch due to some emotional feelings. I met a senior citizen beside my seat, he noticed all my sadness of missing parents, he started consoling and sharing all his life experiences, but the only thing I could do in flight is lean back to the seat and watch clouds outside through the window. When I first arrived in Toronto, I was astonished at seeing the airport. It is almost as big as Bangalore (India) airport but the infrastructure and cleanliness was excellent. Also when compared to the Bangalore airport the rules and the people around sounded different to me and also its not that crowded too. Canada was the first time I had left home. Fortunately I got a homestay which I reserved from India. Canadian Homestay is like a god gift for me because at the beginning when I joined them they were really friendly, they always include me as a family member. In other words they are like Canadian parents. The whole process was highly emotional for me, because my parents who have always taught me that our home is the most important place to cherish. The feeling that my parents are so far away makes me feel so depressed, as is the case in my room at home, it also made me feel anxious, as I began to feel the strain of being so far away from my parents. Overall, for the first time I am so far away from my parents and the process taught me an important lesson in the importance of moving away and establishing my own life separate from my parents. In India I never worked as part time while I was studying, but here in Canada, I am working part time, which makes me feel humble and also makes me to think I am grown up enough to look after my expenses. Canadian working experience is fantastic, people here are such hard workers and also makes us to work hard which is very important. Working part time enables us to manage our time. From this busy schedule I am learning time management very well. Another issue which I found challenging is making new friends and especially now that I was in a college here, I did not know anyone. Making friends at home country has always been an easy task, given that our home is located in a farming community and my parents usually used to visit the neighbors. The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf hailed the launch of the euro as the crown upon European unification. After many decades of dreams, diplomacy, and delays, European unity seemed closer than ever. Geography and History of Kashmir Kashmir is a region located in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. It includes the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir as well as the Pakistani states of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. The Chinese regions of Aksai Chin and Trans-Karakoram are also included in Kashmir. Currently, the United Nations refers to this region as Jammu and Kashmir. Until the 19th century, Kashmir geographically included the valley region from the Himalayas to the Pir Panjal mountain range. Today, however, it has been extended to include the aforementioned areas. Kashmir is significant to geographic studies because its status is disputed, which often causes conflict to develop in the region. Today, Kashmir is administered by India, Pakistan and China. Historical Facts About Kashmir Historical documents state that the region of present-day Kashmir was formerly a lake, thus its name is derived from several translations that deal with water. Kaashmir, a term used in the religious text Nilamata Purana, means for example a land desiccated from water. Kashmirs old capital, Shrinagari, was first founded by the Buddhist emperor Ashoka and the region served as a center of Buddhism. In the 9th century, Hinduism was introduced to the area and both religions thrived. In the 14th century, the Mongol ruler, Dulucha invaded the Kashmir region. This ended the Hindu and Buddhist rule of the area and in 1339, Shah Mir Swati became the first Muslim ruler of Kashmir. Throughout the rest of the 14th century and into subsequent times, Muslim dynasties and empires successfully controlled the Kashmir region. By the 19th century, though, Kashmir was passed to the Sikh armies that were conquering the area. Beginning in 1947 at the end of Englands rule of India, the Kashmir region was given the choice to become a part of the new Union of India, the Dominion of Pakistan or to remain independent. Around this same time, however, both Pakistan and India attempted to gain control of the area and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947 began which lasted until 1948 when the region was partitioned. Two more wars over Kashmir took place in 1965 and 1999. Todays Geography of Kashmir Today, Kashmir is divided among Pakistan, India and China. Pakistan controls the northwestern part, while India controls the central and southern portions and China controls its northeastern areas. India controls the largest portion of land at 39,127 square miles (101,338 sq km) while Pakistan controls an area of 33,145 square miles (85,846 sq km) and China 14,500 square miles (37,555 sq km). The Kashmir region has a total area of about 86,772 square miles (224,739 sq km) and much of it is undeveloped and dominated by large mountain ranges such as the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges. The Vale of Kashmir is located between mountain ranges and there are also several large rivers in the region. The most populated areas are Jammu and Azad Kashmir. The main cities in Kashmir are Mirpur, Dadayal, Kotli, Bhimber Jammu, Muzaffrarabad and Rawalakot. Kashmirs Climate Kashmir has a varied climate but in its lower elevations, summers are hot, humid and dominated monsoonal weather patterns, while winters are cold and often wet. Every government must try to become a welfare state so that it could serve the cause of its own men and woman and this is important in order to have prosperity, growth, and development within the infrastructure of the country. W.E.D. Dubois Essay Many of the nation’s leaders come from many different backgrounds and experience many different types of education. W.E.D Dubois and Booker T. Washington fit into this description of leaders. Both men are the same but also equally different in many ways, from personal backgrounds, to education and even their philosophies’. â€Å"Where there is no struggle there is no strength†. ~Oprah Winfrey. Both men experienced hard ships and glories throughout life which shaped them into strong men. W.E.D. Dubois was born in Great Barrington Massachusetts in 1868. Dubois was the only child of Mary Burghardt and Alfred Dubois. At a young age Dubois’s father left him and his mother. Although Dubois was not born into slavery, his grandmother Elizabeth Freeman was a slave who sued to earn her freedom. The community Dubois lived in was mostly white with about 50 blacks. Booker T. Washington on the other hand was born in 1856 a slave and lived on a plantation in Virginia. Wa shington had 3 siblings James who was adopted, John and his sister Amanda. Like Dubois, Washington didn’t know his father who was a white man. Growing up not knowing their real fathers, with little blacks in one area and more helpless blacks than desired on a plantation, where whites ruled in both places was a struggle for both men, but strengthened them and gave them courage to succeeded. †Live as you were to die tomorrow, Learn as if you were to live forever.† ~ Mahatma Gandhi. Although both men went through many problems and were not expected to succeed they still took advantage of every opportunity that came there way especially when it came to education. W.E.D Dubois attended a pradomently white school as a child, and was the valedictory in high school. In 1885 Dubois attended Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee and graduated 3 years later. In 1888 he attended Harvard University where he received his Ph.D. and was the first black man to do so, in philosophy. But he didn’t stop there, he later traveled to Europe where he studied at Berlin and later became a professor at history and economic. Washington like Dubois took advantage of his education although he didn’t have the tools that Dubois did. When Washington was born it was against the law for slaves to learn to read and write. After the civil war ended Washington attended Hampton Institution and later taught at a school and briefly studied law and ministry. Although Washington didn’t receive his Ph. D. he was the founder of Tuskegee Institution located in Alabama. Despite the fact that both men believed in Education they had completely different philosophies. According to Wikipedia a philosophy is a set of views and beliefs that separates humans from one another. Dubois and Washington were both very strong and educated men with similar backgrounds, but very different philosophies. Washington believed in self-help and accepting discrimination. He was the spokesmen of a gradualist economy. Despite the fact that he believed blacks should accept discrimination he also believed (as stated in the Atlanta compromise) that whites should provide jobs for Negros. But in order to receive this black would have to give up demands of social equality. He also believed in interdependence of both races, but they should remain separate. Dubois on the other hand totally disagreed with Washington. He believed his strategy would only help white oppression and continue to hold blacks back. Dubois advocated political action and helped found the NAACP. Dubois believed that the talented tenth, a group of college educated blacks would spark social change. Both men had very good points but I support one more than the other. â€Å"To be a poor man is hard, but to be a poor is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hard ships.†~ W.E.D Dubois. Quotes like these make me sided with Dubois much more, not Unlike Washington Dubois didn’t believe whites and blacks should remain separate or that in order to advance we should settle for less. Dubois believed in his people speaking out for what was right and what they would accept. All in all, both Washington and Dubois were great leaders, motivators and very inspirational with similarities and differences. Both came from not so great backgrounds and didn’t allow that to stop them from becoming great men with great education. Although they were both strong they both have different philosophies that many people respect.

Many arguments have been brought forth against cloning. Some have put forth valid arguments stating the immorality of cloning. Others just get bad vibes when it comes to the idea of cloning humans. Still others use the religion argument saying it goes against God's intention. These arguments are well founded but are just people's opinions and/or beliefs which don't account for everyone's. My personal belief is that cloning is good for everyone. I m not saying everyone should clone themselves what I am trying to say is that cloning will greatly benefit humanity. Medical advances and a deeper understanding of ourselves would come with cloning if it were legalized. That would mean cloning will have a positive effect on the society as opposed to the negatives voiced by so many. I'll hope to convince you that human cloning is a good thing which we shouldn't waste time in beginning to develop the technology. The point of many cloning critics is that cloning humans is against the will of Providence. However, it is mentioned in the Bible that man was created in the likeness of God (Bible, 1). In order to be more like God, which is his will, we can duplicate what he created. God will not be displeased, but pleased with this major accomplishment. Cloning of humans is widely considered to be immoral and unethical. Many countries and legislatures have banned cloning based on the issue of morality. Allowing a barren couple to have children or to allow a couple who lost a child to have that same child again is not immoral at all. Couples can bring back, so to speak, a child who died in a car accident or a barren couple can bear children by cloning themselves if they desired. Society's morale would be unchanged since human cloning doesn't break any moral standards when closely examined. Cloning will never reach the proportions envisioned by many critics of a country that is overrun by clones. If clones were legalized many people will still not use the technology because of their positions on the subject. Raising a mindless super race or super army is not realistic seeing that a cloned human is the same as any other human. They can think and act on their own just like everybody else. Humanity will not crumble but would be closer together than ever after human cloning makes everyone examine what it means to be human.

The Macroeconomic Perspectives of David Ricardo, Karl Marx, and John Stuart Mill ECON 350 19 November 2012 Abstract The author surveys three influential economists of the Classical era—Ricardo, Marx, and John Stuart Mill—and introduces the reader to their Macroeconomic perspectives based on some of their more prominent Macroeconomic theories. David Ricardo David Ricardo was a Classical Economist who lived from 1772 to 1823.In his professional life he wore many hats: he was a businessman, a financer, a speculator, and a member of Parliament. But what he is most remembered for is the role that he played in the evolution of economic theory, alongside of such other greats as John Stuart Mill and Thomas Malthus, among others. In examining the economic theories which he espoused it is interesting to consider the part that his above-mentioned professions played in influencing his positions.Through his experience as a businessman was undoubtedly able to gain insights into the w orkings of industry; through his experiences as a financer and a speculator he gleaned invaluable insights into the workings of the financial system; and through his experiences as a member of Parliament he no doubt acquired insights into the workings of government and politics that does much to add credibility to many of his economic expostulations. Although he worked diligently in the fields of both Macro- and Micro-economics we will be focusing here primarily on some of his more distinguishing Macroeconomic contributions.The principals within this field of economics which we will be focusing on in particular are: The Law of Comparative Advantage, Comparative Statics, International Money Movement, and Deficit Spending. The principal which is arguably the most important and enduring contribution that David Ricardo ever made to the field of Economics is The Law of Comparative Advantage, also known as The Law of Comparative Cost. This was a principal that was originally developed by Adam Smith in his renowned work entitled â€Å"An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. However, although Adam Smith first developed this principal it was David Ricardo who refined it and thus he is deserving of credit for his part in the formation of this economic principal. The Law of Comparative Advantage was first mentioned by Ricardo in his work entitled â€Å"On the Principals of Political Economy and Taxation. † It is based in â€Å"specialization. † and is a â€Å"law† which we see operating all around us in present times. Basically this law takes one of Adam Smith’s observations–that specialized units within a manufacturing process leads to increased efficiency—and applies it on an international scale.Adam Smith’s observation was that when manufacturing a particular type of item, if each worker present were to work on an item from start to finish they would be inefficient and slow and would not be able to produce nearly as much of the items as would a factory of workers who were separated into specialized units, each unit having the responsibility of completing one of the processes necessary for manufacturing the particular item. Ricardo took this one step further and applied it on a macro level.He noted that different countries, for various reasons, have specific goods that they are particularly adept at producing. He further noted that if countries had to provide for all of their needs internally then they would be unable to focus their attention on the things that they did particularly well. On the other hand, if each country were able to focus on producing the things that they did well then they could produce exponentially more of them and could trade amongst each other for the things that they needed but did not produce internally.Also, he took the Opportunity Cost into account and noted that even if one country did everything better than another it would still be practical for the lesser country to manufacture items for the greater country since the greater country would see the highest returns if they focused their time, money, and energy on the things that they did particularly well. This was actually quite a big deal during Ricardo’s since Protectionist policies were hindering free trade, which Ricardo was a proponent of as can be seen from his Law of Comparative Advantage.One of Ricardo’s first interactions in the economic dialogue of his time was based around the Quantity Theory of Money. At the time there was something going on in Britain that would come to be known as the â€Å"Bullion Controversy†. Basically, as a result of a potential war the British government temporarily suspended the obligation of the Bank of England to convert its notes into gold. During this time agricultural prices rose (which some people attributes to poor harvests) and gold prices went up. It is on this second point that Ricardo chimed in. Ricardo argued that the rise in gold prices was actually the result of inflation.According to him, since the bank wasn’t obligated to exchange their notes for gold they were printing more notes than they had gold to back them. This flood of currency, Ricardo said, was creating an excess supply which was devaluing the currency and thus causing inflation (Laidler, p. 12). Karl Marx Karl Marx is probably best known for the work that he co-authored with Fredrick Engels entitled â€Å"The Communist Manifesto† and also for his work entitled â€Å"Capital. † He is also arguably one of the most well-known of the Classical Economists, or of any group of economists for that matter.In addition to being an economist he is also renowned for his work in the fields of philosophy, sociology, history, and journalism. Karl Marx was a staunch Socialist and the vast majority of his contributions to the field of economics revolved around a singular event that he believed would inevitably o ccur sometime in the future and would bring about the fall of Capitalism, replacing it instead with a Socialist society that would eventually evolve through natural means into a Communist society. Marx saw society as segregated units of distinct classes.In his mind there was a constant struggle going on between these classes as a direct result of one class having dominance over the other. The two classes that he was particularly concerned with were the Proletariat and the Bourgeoisie. The Bourgeoisie were representative of the wealthy Capitalists—this included factory owners, entrepreneurs, and the like. In other words the Bourgeoisie was composed of those individuals who were able to create great wealth for themselves as a direct result of the Capitalist system. Aristocracy and the like were not included as among the Bourgeoisie.The Proletariat on the other hand were those individuals who worked in the factories, et cetera, of the Bourgeoisie. These were the blue collar work ers of their time and the lower class members of society. In Marx’s opinion the Bourgeoisie had taken advantage of the Proletariat by making themselves wealthy off of the labor of this oppressed class. Furthermore Marx felt that the base nature of the work that the Proletariat was given to do was stifling. Last and worst of all Marx felt that these workers were not being fairly compensated for their work.What we now call Recessions and Depressions Marx referred to as â€Å"Crises. † He felt that these Crises were the direct result of disproportionalities in the Law of Supply and Demand. According to Marx the amounts of items supplied to markets and the amounts demanded were in a constant state of tension because they were always seeking to achieve equilibrium but could never quite do so. Since this often led to more of an item being supplied than was demanded by the market, the market became flooded and the item’s price would drop significantly.Businesses in the ir current state could not survive off of these minimal returns, and workers ultimately suffered as a result. Marx believed that workers were not paid adequately during good times to compensate for these Crises, whereas the Bourgeoisie ultimately became wealthy despite these Crises. Marx did not blame the Bourgeoisie but instead saw them merely as a product of their environment. He did, however, feel that this environment which ran according to the tenets of Capitalism was inherently flawed.Marx believed that the Proletariat would eventually revolt against this flawed system and would take manufacturing into their own hands. At first a Socialist form of government would be set up and would be run by what Marx referred as the â€Å"Dictatorship of the Proletariat. † This would only be a temporary institution however and it would eventually become obsolete and dissolve naturally and from that time on Communism would be the sole system that would guide the economy, government, a nd society as a whole.John Stuart Mill John Stuart Mill was born in England and lived between 1806 and 1873. He was both an accomplished philosopher and economist and is recognized as one of the greatest thinkers of his time. His father, James Mill, was a respected philosopher, economist, and political theorist. James Mill was also a contemporary and close friend of David Ricardo and was influential in the Classical Economics movement of his time.Because of James Mill’s intellectual circle of friends, and also because of his strict tutelage, John Stuart Mill was, from a very young age, privy to much of the political, philosophical, and economic discussions and arguments of his day. Because of the influence of his father and also because of his close acquaintance with David Ricardo and others in his father’s circle, he would continue to hold to and defend many of their opinions and precepts throughout the course of his life. John Stuart Mill was also a contemporary of K arl Marx although Mill was apparently unaware of who Marx was.Although Mill wrote volumes of literature on the topic of economics during the course of his lifetime, there is one particular topic that seems to be especially relevant in shaping an understanding of his macroeconomic perspective and so it is on this topic that we will focus our attention. Thomas Stowell tells us in his book entitled â€Å"On Classical Economics† that â€Å"the three major controversies in economics during John Stuart Mill’s lifetime were disputes over Say’s Law, the Malthusian overpopulation theory, and the theory of value (p. 134). The first is a macroeconomic concern whereas the second and third fall under the banner of microeconomics. Therefore it is on this topic that we will now focus our attention: Say’s Law, also known as the Law of Market, was founded on the presumption that money is used solely as a means of initiating transactions and that in the end transactions u ltimately consist of one commodity being traded for another. Say believed that producers are eager to get rid of their products because of price fluctuation which could cause their devaluation and because an unsold product produces no return on investment.Say also believed that producers were equally eager to get rid of the money they acquired through transactions because money’s value fluctuates as well. In order to get rid of money it must be traded for some product or service and thus through this cycle economic growth is created. Say believed that â€Å"gluts† occurred when too much of one product was created, thus flooding the market. This, the law states leads to a loss of revenue for the producer, who in turn consumes less due to this loss of revenue.Because of this lowered consumption there is an overall reduction in demand in the economy as a whole. This reduced demand leads to unemployment and recessionary conditions. It should be noted however that these con sequences ultimately result not from an inadequate supply of money with which to purchase goods, but from markets supplying more of one particular product than is desired and not enough of others. Jean-Jacques Rousseau was one of the most important philosophers of the French enlightenment. During the 1700s the French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau criticized what he saw as his era’s excessive reliance on reason and claimed that people should rely more on instinct and emotion. Rousseau became a leading thinker and writer of his day. Rousseau was also a composer and music theorist. At the age of 13 he was apprenticed to an engraver.
